The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Comes After Poor Reception

The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Strategic Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It confirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our audience.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. Following a period of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His management and background in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having spent the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
